Larry Stone started training on site in 1968 in Birmingham full time. He worked on insurance claims with S&S Construction Company, specializing in fire, wind, and storm damaged homes and commercial buildings. As an apprentice with his uncle Bill Lacey, he worked on old houses and old buildings over 100 years old. In 1971 he worked in new construction wood framing and trim work. In 1973, as a supervisor over seven men, he started Larry Stone Construction Company. He did a variety of work including framing and trim on new houses, remodeling and additions to new houses, and he began designing his own buildings. In 1980 he worked as a commerical supervisor. In 1984 he designed and built his first custom home using close supervision. He is still building new, custom-built homes today. Larry Stone uses his own designs and works with other designers' plans also, using personally trained men under close supervision.
